Young Woman Realizes She’d Rather Have A Tail, So She Decides To Become A Professional Mermaid

Remember the classic Disney film The Little Mermaid? In it, the main character, Ariel, has a lifelong dream of walking on two legs like a human.

Well, a young woman named Emily Keat, whom you’ll meet in the video below, had a lifelong dream too.

It was the opposite of Ariel’s, though!

You see, for a long time, Emily dreamed of becoming a mermaid.

Of course, mermaids don’t exist (that we know of!), so she did the next best thing.

In 2014, she quit her modeling job and became the first professional mermaid in the UK at just 19 years old.

Yes, a professional mermaid. I for one did not know such a job existed!

She’d been interested in mermaids for years, but she first thought about pursuing the career when she saw some professional mermaids in America online.

She was fascinated and quickly got to work.

First, she built her tail.

It took her two months to create the six-foot-long tail, and another month to actually learn how to swim with it.

Luckily for Emily, she was already a very strong swimmer before pursuing her career as a mermaid.
