Since the sudden and heartbreaking passing of beloved musical icon Prince, there has been an understandably overwhelming outpour of admiration from his friends, fans, and fellow artists.
Musicians like Bruce Springsteen have taken time out of their own sets to honor their fallen comrade. Currently on tour, The Boss got things started at a recent show by performing one of Prince’s many hits, “Purple Rain.”
Of course, you don’t have to be a musician to feel the incredible impact of this tragic loss. The innovative singer touched the hearts of countless people across the world, including funny lady Ellen DeGeneres. The talk show host looks back fondly at the singer’s first visit to her set during the series’ debut season in 2003.
She explains how, since no one was sure how well the show would do in its early days, it was an immense honor for her and the whole crew when Prince accepted the invitation.
As he joins her on stage, they enjoy a little shimmy together before Ellen quickly begins to gush about what a huge fan she is. In fact, she has his first-ever album, For You, sitting right next to her chair! Prince gasps when he sees the throwback album cover featuring some interesting style choices, but is clearly appreciative as he says, “See, that’s why I’m here, she’s from the old school. She knows what’s up.”
Take a look at the clip below to also see him perform his 1986 hit “Kiss” and even bring some of the crowd on stage with him!
