Keith Burkett’s story has touched hearts all over the world. The 12-year-old from Stow, Ohio, battled cancer for six years and was known as “Kourageous Keith” by loved ones and supporters.
Keith first made headlines in October when he was treated to an early Christmas celebration and parade. His community declared October 21 Keith Burkett Day.
But Keith, who was receiving home hospice care, wanted something more from his mother, best friend, and caretaker, Taylore:
“Mama, I would like to walk you down the aisle before I die.”
Though Taylore had already eloped with Keith’s stepfather by this point, and the family had little money to spend on another wedding, she was 100% determined to make Keith’s wish come true.
Thanks to selfless donations, the family exceeded their $3,500 goal in mere weeks and quickly organized the wedding with a local venue.
However, Keith’s health was declining. Taylore knew whatever plans they’d made would need to be greatly adjusted. “We think he is holding out to go down the aisle with me,” she wrote on Facebook.
In the video below, prepare to be moved by the small yet tear-jerking (and impromptu) living room wedding ceremony that took place on November 9, 2018.
Three days later, Keith’s followers learned he had succumbed to the cancer. “Today at 12:57pm Keith earned his angel wings and it’s now in heaven in peace to be with god,” his mom wrote on Facebook. “Mommy misses you so much already baby boy! You will always be with mommy! I don’t know how mommy is going to live without you! A piece of me will forever be gone. I promise you baby I’ll do my best! We love you so much baby!!”
