Ian and Brittani have two young daughters, and they weren’t planning on expanding their family. So when they learned they were expecting fraternal twins — a boy and a girl — they were shocked yet thrilled.

But the Kansas couple’s elation quickly turned to devastation when doctors told them that their unborn son, Mason, wasn’t properly developing inside the womb. It was the news no parent wants to hear.

With a hole in his heart and an abnormal brain, each doctor’s appointment has become more difficult than the last. Ian and Brittani are coming to terms with idea of going home with only one of the twins. However, on February 16, 2016, the couple saw something amazing in their latest sonogram.

While most babies are caught dancing or kicking around inside the womb, Brittani’s ultrasound technician was stunned to capture an unexpected moment between Mason and Madilyn.

After having two girls, Brittani McIntire never planned on having any more children. So, you can imagine her surprise when she and her husband, Ian, learned they were expecting twins.

But doctors soon discovered something else — while Madilyn was growing at a healthy pace, Mason’s development was lagging behind. She weighs over two pounds while he weighs a mere nine ounces.

Mason has a hole in his heart and an abnormal brain. Doctors began to prepare Brittani and Ian for the worst; it’s likely they’ll only be going home with one of their precious twins.

Each doctor’s appointment has been more difficult than the last. But recently, Brittani and Ian witnessed something truly incredible.

During their latest sonogram, the ultrasound technician captured a rare moment between unborn twins. Mason’s tiny hand was tightly wrapped around Madilyn’s finger — and he wouldn’t let go. Brittani was struck by the display of comfort and protection from inside the womb.

“We know we have a piece of them together that will last forever and it’s special to have,” Brittani told KwCH. “…she’s the only one who can actually be there and holding onto him through it, so it’s comforting to know that if he does pass he won’t be alone.”

As the twins’ sonogram goes viral, people all over the country are praying for Brittani, her family, and for Mason. Please SHARE this touching story with your friends on Facebook.
