On July 19, 2017, Tia Coleman and 10 of her family members boarded a duck boat on Table Rock Lake, Missouri.

She was there with her husband and their three children, ages 9, 7, and 1; her sister-in-law and her two kids, 13 and 2; and her in-laws and the uncle who lives with them. All they wanted was to spend the day as a family and take in the sights and sounds of the beautiful Ozarks.

The voyage took a deadly turn at around 7 p.m. when severe winds and thunderstorms caused the boat to capsize.

As the captain tried taking control, massive swells of freezing cold water crashed over the boat.

The last thing Tia heard was her sister-in-law shouting, ‘Grab the baby.”

The boat continued to sink and Tia desperately tried swimming up to the surface — all the while praying to reach her children. “Lord please, let me get to my babies, I gotta get to my babies, I gotta get to my babies.”

17 people perished that day. Tia and her 13-year-old nephew are the only two survivors from her family. She has lost all of her children.

Now, a GoFundMe page is helping to support Tia as she prepares to lay her family to rest.

In the video below, Tia shares her harrowing story from her hospital bed. I can’t believe what she has to say about the life preservers on-board.
