On New Year’s Eve, one 911 dispatcher in Polk County, Florida, received the most interesting call.
According to authorities, a man named Michael Lester had called 911 to report that he’d been “driving around all night” — drunk.
“I’m too drunk. I don’t know where I’m at,” Michael said in the nearly three-and-a-half-minute phone call, which you can hear in the video below.
The dispatcher remained patient and mostly calm. Once she realized he was literally driving at the time of the call, she repeatedly asked Michael to pull his car over.
Michael mentioned a few details the dispatcher took note of: his car was red; he had been driving the wrong way down roads; and he was parked just past a police station.
Luckily, the Polk County Sheriff Department was quick to dispatch a police car to where Michael likely was while keeping him on the line. He was eventually arrested for drunk driving.
Deputies later commented on the incident and posted the following message on their Facebook page:
“Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is a serious crime. Innocent people are too often injured or killed from impaired drivers. DUI is not a laughing matter. However […] in this particular incident, nobody was hurt, so we couldn’t help but LOTO (that means we Laughed Our Tasers Off).”
While I’m happy to hear that no one was injured, including Michael, I must admit that this is one unusual case!
