Bald eagles are a symbol of strength. These amazing birds of prey are so powerful it is difficult to imagine that they ever need help.
But sometimes they do.
Angela and James Corbett were harvesting clams near Moose Island in the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia when they came across an eagle in need of help. They found the exhausted bird swimming in the bay halfway between Moose Island and the mainland. Her wings were so weighed down from water that she couldn’t fly away.
The doomed bird was doing little more than staying afloat, and without help would soon drown. They managed to scoop the bird out of the water and into their boat, drying her feathers with their jackets and sweaters.
The eagle was then transferred to Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre where staff examined her and determined she was in good health without any injuries.
Because she was severely exhausted, they let her rest in the facility for the night. Once they were sure she could fly, they released her back into the wild, assuming she probably had a mate, babies, and a nest in the vicinity.
Watch this video and see the beautiful eagle soar back into the wild. She is truly exquisite!
