Taylor Todd and his girlfriend, Alexis Malquist, spent the holidays with his family. However, their time together took an unexpected turn when their rescue terrier-husky mix escaped.
Taylor went downstairs just after 10 p.m. and was horrified when he saw the front door ajar. He quickly realized that his dog Zoe, who was just over a year old, was no longer home.
The couple spent a sleepless night making posters to plaster around the neighborhood, hoping that someone had spotted Zoe.
“My heart was torn up. It was just so devastating. It was like losing a family member. I thought she was just gone for good,” Alexis said.
Meanwhile, just hours after the pup left home, she was spotted by a concerned citizen who called animal services. A police officer got the call and volunteered to search for the dog.
He ended up finding her less than a mile away, near a local high school. She was brought to the shelter where she spent the night before being reunited with the frantic couple only 24 hours after disappearing.
Taylor and Alexis know that Zoe is home again all thanks to an alert stranger and a kind officer!
Zoe was not microchipped, so the situation could have certainly gone unresolved. Thankfully, the couple learned their lesson and promptly microchipped her before going home.
Please SHARE if you’re glad Zoe’s back home where she belongs!
