Mom Hopes Her Dog Will Protect Her From Home Intruder But She’s Surprised By The Outcome

Michelle Kellaher loves her yellow lab named Perry, but she was curious to see what her loyal companion would do should an intruder break into her home. Like many confident dog owners, Michelle assumed Perry would try everything she could to protect her if the unthinkable happened.

To test out Perry’s protective skills, Inside Edition teamed up with K9-1 Specialized Dog Training to conduct an experiment at her home in Irvington, New York.

In the video below, a male stranger (pretending to be a masked intruder) burst into Michelle’s home and went to attack her.

Michelle screamed for Perry’s help — but instead of trying to save her, the frightened dog made a beeline for the front door, leaving Mom to fend for herself.

When it came to fight or flight, Perry clearly chose the latter. Michelle was disappointed.

The experiment didn’t end there. Inside Edition tried the same thing on a pit bull/lab mix named Ruby. Her owner, Kevin, was sure Ruby would bite the attacker.

Again, the big dog was too afraid to protect his owner like he’d hoped.

Inside Edition tried the experiment one last time — only this time, on a tiny chihuahua.

But the outcome? Totally different.
