Sometimes heroes pop out of nowhere to save the day.
The poor dog, who appeared to be a German Shepherd, must have underestimated the thickness of any icy pond before fall in due to his body weight. He yelped and barked for help, unable to make his way out of the water by himself.
Luckily, he wasn’t alone on the ice. Two men who’d been playing hockey on a thicker area of the pond saw that the dog was in trouble and rushed to the scene. One went to go rescue the anxious canine while the other caught the whole ordeal on camera.
In the clip below, you can see a man in blue slowly crawling toward the hole in the pond with his skates still on his feet. He carefully taps the ice with a wooden hockey stick every few seconds to make sure that the spaces he was inching over wouldn’t crack underneath him.
He calls to the desperate dog once he’s close enough, then reaches out to him with a hockey stick adorned with blue tape.
It was a struggle to get the terrified dog to comply, but in the end, the man’s mission was a success and the German Shepherd was rescued from his icy torment.
