As parts of the Midwest and the South are suffering from heavy destruction due to tornados, many families have been affected by the loss of loved ones, homes, and belongings.

From these horrible events emerge some happy ones, as one Glenn Heights, Texas, family is discovering. Their home was heavily damaged by a passing tornado. During CBSDFW‘s coverage of the destruction, the family lamented over the state of their home, lingering in front of it with the hopes of being able to salvage some possessions.

It was by a miracle that they weren’t home at the time the tornado hit, too. The family’s arrival was delayed by a flat tire.

But they had left behind their pet behind, and when they saw how much damage their house had sustained, they feared the worst for the poor pup.

Camera crews were at the scene when the family was able to breathe a sigh of relief at the sight of their dog! He had miraculously survived the storm unharmed. During the emotional reunion, family members clutched the excited pup, hugging him close and overwhelmed by their good fortune: they may need a long time to recover their possessions, but no one was hurt.
