First-Time Dad Doesn’t Want To Give Up Social Life, So He Builds A Pub Out Back

Although having children is amazing, it makes having a social life more complicated. Trips to the zoo, the park, and playdates are fun, but occasionally parents need an adult night out.

Eva and Phil Avery bought their house three years ago when they were pregnant with their first child. Determined not to give up their social lives, this creative couple came up with the perfect solution.

They built a pub in their back garden, giving them the freedom to socialize with friends while also keeping an eye on their baby Millie.

Their backyard pub looks like an authentic British pub, only smaller. Colorful labels from beers and spirits decorate the walls, and trinkets from their travels abroad line the shelves.

They purchased a few key items, like the bar stools, but otherwise everything is recycled or found. For example, the mirror behind the bar belonged to a family member and the antique wall lamps came with the house.

Phil describes the pub as a sanctuary where they can have a few drinks in the evening without worrying about Millie. Having a backyard pub probably also saves money, as sometimes budgets are tighter once children are in the picture.

I absolutely love the idea of a DIY backyard pub and hope this starts a new trend. What do you think?
