Nicole Niesner was married for 13 years when she and her husband decided to divorce.
“When I received a letter in the mail letting me know that I would be divorced as of December 16, 2017, it got me thinking, ‘How am I going to spend that day?'” Nicole told Love What Matters.
The 36-year-old Canadian woman decided that she wanted to surround herself with her closest friends and throw a “Divorce Party” to mark the occasion. A handful of friends planned the party and came to Nicole’s house dressed in wedding dresses.
“I dug my dress out of my storage room, and we all got dressed up, had a blast taking pictures, and reminiscing about our weddings, children, families, and friends,” Nicole said. “It was all positive and meant to lift me up. They wanted me to know that I am loved by many and that I’m going to be OK.”
Nicole’s photographer friend snapped pictures of the ladies decked out in white, as they drank wine, ate, and laughed. The party was cathartic for Nicole, who could have had a really sad day if not for her amazing friends.
“Even though I am OK with being divorced, it just lifted me up and reminded me that I am loved and that I have lots of great people in my life,” she told Inside Edition.
