Devan Merck found out she’d been born without a vagina at age 12. The 23-year-old from Georgia has always struggled to find boyfriends who will accept her rare condition.

“For years, I was bullied and felt different. Kids would call me a ‘boy’ and a ‘freak,’ and boyfriends would disappear when they realized I wouldn’t have sex,” Devan told Barcroft.

“I couldn’t have sex. So it was difficult to have a boyfriend that was OK with that. It definitely ended some relationships really quick. But those relationships were not meant to be, and that’s OK.”

Devan was diagnosed with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome, meaning she has no vaginal opening, no cervix, and a malformed uterus.

As she got older, however, doctors were able to create an artificial vagina for her.

Afterward, Devan thought she had found a boyfriend who accepted her. But whenever they got into an argument, he would slam her with cruel insults. The terrible guy would tell her that her “artificial vagina” “smelled” and “felt different” than other girls’.

Then Devan met Trent — and her life completely changed…
