Dennis Quaid has a lot to be happy about these days: The actor has an upcoming sitcom, Merry Happy Whatever, that will debut on Netflix on Thanksgiving.
He also recently got engaged to this 26-year-old girlfriend, Laura Savoie, while vacationing in Hawaii.
Dennis was asked about the pair’s wedding plans while speaking to Entertainment Tonight on a promo tour for the Netflix series. He explained that they plan to get married fairly quickly, saying, “You’ve got a year, right? And if you go past a year without getting married, then you’re suspect. That’s basic etiquette.” He also noted that Laura will be looking at wedding dresses soon, saying, “She’s gotta get started.”
Entertainment Tonight also asked about the couple’s holiday traditions, and Dennis noted that “every day’s a holiday” for the two of them and that they plan to spend the holidays back in Hawaii because “we had such a good time there before.”
He has also shared a few more details about his surprise proposal, and recently told Extra that, “I had the ring in my pocket. It has been kind of a month-and-a-half plan — I wanted it to be private. She was actually taking a selfie of us, and I put the ring in front and said, ‘Will you marry me?’ And then she fell down.”
This is sure to be a busy time for both Dennis and Laura, who will be wrapping up her PhD in accounting at the University of Texas in Austin in 2021. Only time will tell if they decide to celebrate their wedding and the conclusion of her program at the same time.
