Everyone loves a little bit of nostalgia — especially those who follow daytime soap operas. One of the most popular, Days of our Lives, has aired almost every weekday since 1965.

In that time, plenty of characters have been filtered in and out. Throughout the years, the show — which focuses on a family of doctors — has tackled a bunch of heavier topics that other soap operas have failed to touch. It’s been such an important part of daytime television for decades. Fans of ’90s television might have even gotten into it after watching Friends. On the popular sitcom, Matt LeBlanc’s character of Joey Tribbiani got a part on the show.

But sadly, Joey’s fictional character of Dr. Drake Ramoray isn’t in the lineup of characters expected to come back for the Days of Our Lives web series, which was just announced. The new series will be called Last Blast Reunion, and nine characters from the 2000 series of the show will be making a comeback.

For longtime fans of the show, that’s a pretty big deal. Here’s what we know so far about what’s going to happen.

Brandon Beemer is coming back to play Shawn Brady. Brandon appeared in more than 800 episodes of the series. Interestingly enough, it wasn’t his first soap opera — he was also heavily involved in The Bold and the Beautiful from 2008 to 2012, playing the role of Owen Knight.

Martha Madison is also making a comeback. Martha plays Belle Black, who appeared in more than 300 episodes of the show. Interestingly enough, Martha’s acting career actually started out in movies. Back in 2001, she had a small role as a police officer in the movie Kate & Leopold.

Martha was also quick to promote the new digital series on Instagram. On her post, she revealed that fans will need to download the Days of Our Lives app and also set a reminder for November 29. So this is all happening much faster than you probably realized.

Aaron Van Wagner, who played Jason Welles, will also be back on the series. It’s kind of a big deal, since his last acting credit was in 2007 — and it was Days of Our Lives. Fans of his character might not even recognize him after all this time has passed.

Lindsay Hollister is another interesting addition to the digital cast. She reportedly played Susan Adamson for only one episode of the show, so this may be a big comeback. The actress is better known for appearing in the movie Pee-wee’s Big Holiday as Peggy Brown.

Heather Lindell is back to play Jan Spears. She originally appeared on the show during 2004 and 2005. In 2007, she appeared in another popular soap — As the World Turns. But that run lasted for only a few episodes.

Nadia Bjorlin is also on board to reprise her role of Chloe Lane. Her run on Days of Our Lives was one of the most impressive. She was on the show from 1999 to 2019, appearing in well over 900 episodes. Not a bad way to make a name for yourself.

But that’s not all. Other familiar characters are appearing on the digital series, but the parts will be played by other actors. It’s a bummer for true fans, but they’re likely used to switch-ups like this.

People reports that Chadwick Hopson will play Kevin Lambert, a part once played by both Brett Lawrence and Robert Benvenisti. Chadwick has a promising career ahead of him. Aside from this web series, he’s also currently working on a film called There’s Blood on the Disco Ball.

Another new face is Teressa Liane, who is taking over the role of Mimi Lockhart. She’s best known for the series Neighbours. Fans of The Vampire Diaries might also recognize her as Mary Louise.

This news may be a little unexpected, as Days of Our Lives made headlines recently due to massive cuts. The show released all of its actors from their contracts, which many felt was a sign that it would be going off the air. It’s possible that producers are testing the waters with Last Blast Reunion to see if a new format may help them save money.

It’s interesting to think about the life span of soap operas these days. With more people in the working world, they likely don’t have the live audience views they used to. But then again, that’s what the DVR is for.

If you know a family member who would love to follow along, you might want to make sure they have the app installed ahead of time. The app is pretty unique. Those who have it installed can get updates right from the set of the show.

There’s also a Days of Our Lives podcast, meaning that the show is really embracing technology and finding new ways to expand its fan base. With this new show of old favorites, it’s possible that a brand-new generation will start watching along. You can listen to Inside Salem for more Days of Our Lives gossip and cast interviews.
