Maggie has been covered in tattoos for the past 12 years, but her parents don’t know it.
“My parents haven’t seen me wear shorts in probably 10 years,” she says.
Maggie assumed that her parents, Linda and Randy, who are conservative Christians, hated tattoos, and think that only drug addicts and street thugs have them. She was certain they would disapprove, even if her first tattoos were an homage to her faith. In fact, all of her tattoos mark milestones in her life, such as falling in love or moving to Arizona. There is even one of an anchor with “Mom and Dad” on it!
In an effort to be honest with her parents and foster a more intimate relationship with them, Maggie recruited Bianca Giaever, a filmmaker who creates videos for people who have trouble getting their message across.
Bianca flew Maggie out to confront her parents with the video about her tattoos. And, much to Maggie’s surprise, they were totally on board with her choices!
We think that Maggie could have used this tutorial to cover up her ink instead of hiding them by covering them up for so long, but fortunately that’s no longer necessary. She can wear her ink proudly, like this awesome dad.
Now that everything is out in the open, we’re positive Maggie and her parents will be more honest with one another from this point on.
