Darci Lynne Farmer is one of the most famous 13-year-olds in the country right now.

The teen, who lives in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, won the 12th season of America’s Got Talent for her incredible ventriloquism acts.

Recently, Darci Lynne opened up to The Morning Blend about how she got her start. Even though she always loved singing, Darci Lynne was too shy to perform in public.

Her parents decided to get her started in pageants to help her overcome her shyness. It was at a pageant that she met 18-year-old Laryssa Bonacquisti (now Miss Louisiana). Laryssa performed a ventriloquism act that inspired young Darci Lynne.

The two young women got to spend some time together, and Darci Lynne became fascinated by Laryssa’s performances. She asked her parents for a puppet, but they initially brushed her off, saying she was a singer, not a ventriloquist.

Eventually, Darci Lynne convinced her parents she was passionate about the art form, and they bought her a puppet for her 10th birthday.

From there on out, she worked hard to teach herself how to speak without moving her mouth. She practiced speaking in the mirror for hours, and her hard work definitely paid off — only three years after receiving her first puppet, Darci Lynne won America’s Got Talent!
