Danielle Fishel and Jensen Karp have a spotlight stealer on their hands. No, we’re not talking about their adorable 3-month-old son, Adler Lawrence.
It’s their dog, Brunch! Danielle revealed that Brunch insists on being the star of every photo Danielle or Jensen takes of Adler. “I would say that at least 70% of my pictures of my son, Brunch is somewhere weaseling his way into the picture,” Danielle admitted about her beloved pooch.
Danielle shared that hilarious tidbit of information at the 2019 American Humane Hero Dog Awards in Beverly Hills, California. She, along with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kristin Chenoweth, Shannen Doherty, and other celebs stepped out for a night to celebrate inspiring canines.
This year, the awards honored a three-legged dog who became a therapy dog, a search and rescue dog who worked the Camp Fire, and an explosives detection dog. The awards gala will air on the Hallmark Channel on Monday, October 21 at 8 p.m.
Danielle Fishel and Jensen Karp have a little jealous sibling on their hands. The two only welcomed son Adler Lawrence three months ago, but one of his fur siblings is having a tough time adjusting.
The couple’s dog, Brunch, has taken quite a liking to his human brother. When it comes to photos, however, he’s having some trouble sharing the spotlight, as Danielle revealed during her appearance at the 2019 American Humane Hero Dog Awards.
“Brunch is used to being the only member of the family,” Danielle told People of the pooch. Jensen got Brunch when he was just a puppy. The now 6-year-old dog has a tall list of demands from his owners.
“… Brunch thinks that all pictures involve Brunch, should be of Brunch, about Brunch, so I would say that at least 70% of my pictures of my son, Brunch is somewhere weaseling his way into the picture,” Danielle explained.
While Danielle joked about Brunch “totally lurking” in any and all baby pictures, she says he’s adjusted well to having a human baby brother. He’s even tried to help by keeping order among the other animals in the house.
“We also have a cat, Bill, and Brunch thinks that it is his job to police them. I don’t know why he thinks that Bill is his responsibility, but when Bill claws the furniture, which he knows we don’t like, or jumps up on a table, which Brunch also knows we don’t like, he runs in and barks until Bill jumps down,” Danielle said.
“Then Brunch looks at us like, ‘You’re welcome.’” she added. Danielle thinks Brunch wants everyone to know that he’s very “strong and handsome,” which of course she and Jensen agree with.
Danielle was thrilled to get to attend the award ceremony and get in some more puppy playtime. “Dogs on a red carpet is one of my favorite sights to see! Every time I see a dog on a red carpet I am thrilled. I have had rescue dogs my entire life,” she shared.
Danielle also shared an update on Adler while at the event. She told E! News, “We’re still dealing with health issues with him,” she explained. “We are still in and out of the hospital. We’re still getting new test results all the time. It’s still so hit and miss. He’s doing well, he’s home and he’s happy, but there are still some health issues.”
“He’s very strong,” she added. “He lifts his head up! He rolled over from front-to-back at 5 weeks, which was very soon. I’m not trying to speed up the back-to-front rolling over because then I have to stop swaddling him, and he sleeps so well when he’s swaddled.”
“So I’m not encouraging the speediness of this! But he’s the best, and he’s smiley and he’s happy and he’s giggling,” she gushed. You can tell that the new mama is so relieved to see her son doing so well.
Danielle has also shed some of the baby weight, although she wasn’t trying to. “I think it’s stress!” she said. “To be honest, I haven’t thought about it. I made it the last thing on my list was to get back into any sort of shape. It really was just natural.”
“I haven’t started working out yet. I did get the go-ahead six weeks after that I could work out, and I was like, awesome!” she explained. “And I haven’t started yet, but I’ve been pumping and breastfeeding, which burns more calories, or whatever. But, there really hasn’t been a strategy, it just naturally happened, so, I am grateful.”
It’s wonderful to see Danielle all smiles after the tough time she had following Adler’s birth. She and Jensen are doing great as first-time parents, and Brunch will undoubtedly make sure the two don’t slack.
