Dad Posts Message On His Pickup Truck About Needing A Kidney, Then Gets Calls From Strangers

by Lindsey Smith
Lindsey is from Florida and has worked in online and print media. Her happy place is Michaels craft store.

Ed Marquez found out that his kidneys were failing due to diabetes and he would need a transplant.

“A very, very long wait on the transplant list,” Ed says. “We decided we didn’t want to do that.”

In order to try and speed up the process of finding a matching donor, Ed decided to advertise his plea for a kidney by putting a message on the back of his pickup truck saying he needs a kidney, the blood type, and his phone number.

A woman saw Ed’s truck one day while she was driving, snapped a photo and put it up on her Facebook on June 5, 2017. “It kinda blew up,” Ed says. “People from all over the country have been calling me!”

In the post, she wrote, “A little goes a long way.. share Facebook friends and help this guy find a kidney! Let’s make it go viral”

The photo the woman posted, did end up getting shared all over the country and has been shared over 12,000 times as of June 18, 2017. “The support has been incredible,” Ed said.

Ed is still in need of a matching donor. Anyone interested in helping can visit the Facebook page set up for him. His family has also set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for the transplant. You can donate here.
