Fourteen-year-old Courtney Hadwin sent the country into a tizzy when she first graced the America’s Got Talent stage last season after belting out her rendition of “Hard to Handle,” earning a Golden Buzzer from judge Howie Mandel.
“Oh my gosh, you are not from this era. You’re from a whole different era. I’m not Clive Davis, I’m Howie Mandel, and I can’t sign you to a record deal. The only thing I can do for you, young lady, is give you [the Golden Buzzer],” he said to her onstage, as she hysterically sobbed in triumph and joy (as one should). That very moment was the beginning of her success on the talent competition show, and now she’s doing it all over again on America’s Got Talent: The Champions.
In a pretaped segment for the show that aired Monday, Courtney admitted, “Growing up, I’ve always wanted to be a rock star. Champions is a second chance for my dream come true. So there wouldn’t be any point in doing Champions if I’m gonna do the same thing. I really want to show people something a bit different.”
Courtney performed a song that judge and Courtney-superfan Howie Mandel admitted he didn’t recognize, to which Courtney shyly told the judges, it was “an original composition.”
Seriously, is there anything this teen can’t do? No matter what happens, one thing is for sure: Courtney has an extremely bright future ahead of her.
Keep on keepin’ on, girl!
