A Newport News, Virginia, couple got the surprise of a lifetime while making renovations to their home — but it wasn’t something everyone would want to find hiding behind their walls.

According to WTKR Norfolk, the couple had already lived in the house for about a year and a half before they decided to renovate the space.

They reportedly knocked into the wall in the back of the garage area, then discovered the long contraption. Luckily, they recognized it as a bazooka round and called 911.

The fire department arrived on the scene, along with a bomb squad, and authorities carefully removed it from the home after asking a few neighbors to evacuate their homes. Shortly thereafter, they deemed the round to be totally harmless based on its condition.

According to CBS News, the round was identified as a World War II-era M6 60-caliber bazooka anti-tank rocket.

The bomb squad stored it in a secure bomb box, and it will be taken it to Fort Eustis. There is no word yet as to why the round was hidden in the home or how long it had been stored there.

What an incredible find — one any history buff can surely appreciate!
