Wayne Blackmore said his heart sank when he noticed a police car tailing behind him. The husband was driving with his wife in the passenger seat. The Texas couple had been through a lot and didn’t need any more headaches.

“I was nervous. You know, I think everybody gets the sweats and that uneasy feeling,” Wayne told CBS.

He had a feeling he was going to get a ticket because the couple did not have a front license plate. The Blackmores had endured a recent miscarriage after years of infertility.

They had just turned to IVF and traveled to the Czech Republic for a more affordable treatment. Needless to say, Wayne was feeling stressed. His wife, Michelle, was as cool as a cucumber, though.

What Wayne didn’t know was that the IVF treatment had worked. Conceiving had been such a clinical, heartbreaking process, Michelle wanted to tell Wayne he was going to be a dad in a memorable way.

That’s when the cop came in.

“As a parent, we also have to make sure that we’re a good role model, correct?” the officer told Wayne. “And, seeing as you’re in that boat now, don’t you think it’s important you do the same?”

Wayne was instantly confused. The officer handed him a “baby on board” sign instead of a ticket. Then Michelle pulled out a pregnancy test. It was positive.

“You’re an idiot,” Wayne told his wife with the biggest grin on his face.

Michelle had gotten what she wanted: a wonderful story to tell for the ages.

“We both really wanted a family,” said the future doting dad.
