Old homes are charming and filled with history. The design of a house — both the interior and the exterior — can inform people about the time in which it was built, while also evoking a kind of nostalgia for a long-ago era.

So, it came as no surprise that John and Nicole Rader fell in love with their Colonial Revival-style home, which had a lot of the original features intact.

They saw that the house had a lot of potential, so they decided to enhance those features by renovating the entire space.

The couple made a lot of big modern changes, such as adding window panes to one room and updating the kitchen. However, they kept the cabinets.

One of the most interesting features of the house is the walls of one of the rooms. Husband John painted it not once, but twice, and in two different colors. His wife was not happy with either, so she decided to take over the endeavor herself — in the middle of the night! She started stripping the top layer of paint with a scraper, creating a rustic-looking distressed style.

Of course, renovating a home isn’t easy, and it costs a lot of money. But with one look at this house and how beautiful this couple made it, you’ll be inspired to change up your home’s decor, too!
