Floyd Miley had never met Leondrae Ridley, but the news of his murder hit him hard.
Leondrae had been shot dead outside his home in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 1, 2017.
His five children (ages 5, 6, 10, 11, and 13) were asleep inside the house when he died.
Leondrae also left behind his fiancée, Stannisha Battle.
Even though Floyd had never met them, he felt compelled to help Stannisha and the kids face their first holiday season without Leondrae. He said, “To lose a father, provider, protector and then to experience the first Christmas — it’s really terrible.”
Floyd decided he wanted to do something special, so he collected gifts for Leondrae’s five kids and spent his Christmas Day delivering those presents to their front door.
Stannisha says the gifts for her kids mean the world. She’s still trying to adjust to life without Leondrae, who she says “would take them to their practices, take them to their games, take them to school in the morning, pick them up in the evenings… He would do all of that. So the kids, they really looked up to him.”
Even though Christmas presents won’t ever bring Leondrae back, it was a small spark of light in a time that has been so dark for his family. Knowing that there are people out there thinking about them — even total strangers — can hopefully help Leondrae’s kids look forward to a brighter future.
