The music world is crushed by the news that American rock musician Chris Cornell has died unexpectedly at the age of 52.

The cause of death has not yet been identified.

Chris was best known as the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist for Seattle-based rock band Soundgarden, and as lead vocalist and songwriter for the group Audioslave.

The performer was known as one of the founding voices of the 1990s grunge movement. Chris leaves an extensive catalog as a songwriter, and will be remembered for his powerful vocal belting technique. Among his hits were “Black Hole Sun” for Soundgarden and “Like a Stone” for Audioslave. He also sang the opening theme for the James Bond movie Casino Royale.

He will forever be remembered for his incredible voice, and the music he left behind.
