Jo Ellen Kleinhenz let her sweet dog, Chloe, outside to run around the backyard for a bit — just like she usually did.
She didn’t expect a normal day to turn into a fight for her beloved pet’s life.
After Hurricane Irma, a new pond had formed in Jo Ellen’s backyard, but she didn’t think much of it. Little did she know, a scaly predator had come along with that body of water.
The next thing she knew, Jo Ellen heard Chloe crying from the pond.
In the video below, posted on October 23, 2017, Jo Ellen explains, “She was just making this terrible cry and growling sound — a noise that you won’t ever forget.”
Jo Ellen rushed outside and found an alligator pulling Chloe down, inside the pond. Chloe was clinging onto a low tree branch for dear life. The young dog was fighting back, trying to save her own life — no matter how much energy it was going to take.
Luckily, once Jo Ellen and a neighbor came running over, the alligator let go and fled. As a result of the attack, Chloe lost her left hind leg, but she will never lose her zest for life.
Now, Chloe is well-adjusted to living with a missing leg and still the happy dog she always was — only now, she is a fighter and a survivor.
