It really doesn’t seem like things can get any better for Chip and Joanna Gaines. The two are at the top of their game.
They have a beautiful family and an empire that continues to grow. What’s more, they have the love and respect of fans all over the world. The couple took the idea of a quiet home life in Waco, Texas, and made it into a lifestyle that people are hugely inspired by. Now they’re taking the next step, and it involves a return to TV.
You may recall that Chip and Jo appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last November. During their appearance, an excited Chip let the news slip that the couple would be returning to TV. Chip said they were in talks for their own cable network.
The news was exciting for fans who have missed the duo since they ended their HGTV series Fixer Upper earlier last year. We’re finally getting details on that new channel, and to say we’re excited about their return is an understatement.
People around the world love Chip and Joanna Gaines. The couple from Waco won the hearts of millions with their HGTV series Fixer Upper.
Many fans were disappointed to see the series come to an end last spring. For Chip and Joanna, it was time to move on and shift their focus to other business endeavors.
They also needed some time to focus on their growing family. Chip and Joanna welcomed their fifth child, Crew, in late June 2018.
Last November, Chip let the news slip that he and Joanna were in talks for their own cable network. Since their appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, there hadn’t been any further information on the project.
This week, we’re finally getting some details on the channel. Discovery Inc. and the Gaines’ Magnolia brand announced that their network will replace Discovery’s DIY Network in the summer of 2020.
It’s major exposure for the couple. The DIY Network currently broadcasts to over 52 million homes in the US.
As for content, the channel plans to feature programs that focus on home and garden, food and wellness, community, design, and entrepreneurial pursuits. It will also be running all seasons of Fixer Upper.
Magnolia spokesperson John Marsicano released a statement to People on the upcoming network. “Our goal for this multi-platform media company is to deliver a unique, inspiring and family-friendly content experience rooted in honesty and authenticity — the kind of programming that helps bring people together,” he said. “We believe Discovery is the perfect partner for this joint venture and we are excited for what lies ahead!”
There’s no news on what the new channel will be named just yet. It will be available on cable and the TV Everywhere app, with plans for a subscription streaming service to come later on.
The CEO of Discovery, David Zaslav, is also excited about the project. “Chip and Joanna Gaines have become trusted, household names since the debut of Fixer Upper and through this joint venture, Discovery is proud to extend our relationship with them,” he told People.
David also touched on all the reasons why people love Chip and Joanna. “They’ve got authenticity and relatability, that special something that is so difficult in our business to find,” he explains. “People love them, their taste, their businesses — they’ve built an ecosystem that aligns perfectly with our vision at Discovery for fueling people’s passions.”
There’s another group of people who are very excited about the new network — the Gaines kids. Joanna told People, “Even our kids are excited. They’ll say to us, ‘You guys should do this or try that.’ They’ve been helping us with market research.”
The Gaines kids are no strangers to getting in on the family businesses. Aside from their occasional baked goods or lemonade sales at Magnolia Market, the oldest four also helped their mom on her new book, We Are the Gardeners.
It seems the new venture will bring Chip and Joanna back to their roots with a fun, new twist. Everyone’s excited to see what the new network will offer.
