A regular day at the beach took a huge turn when a mother and daughter saw something fall from the sky.
They figured a seagull had dropped a Cheeto, but they looked closer and realized what had actually fallen was a rare, orange-lined seahorse, struggling to survive and in need of help.
In the video below, posted on May 11, 2017, Mary Loceri recalls the moment she shared with her daughter and explains, “We went to go check it out, and it turned out to be a seahorse, so she put it in the water to kind of revive it, and we just put it in a solo cup when we walked back to our condo.”
The family soon brought the seahorse to The Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
Now, the seahorse, who has since been named Cheeto, is rehabilitating inside the aquarium. Her tank has been turned into an educational exhibit, and Cheeto has become something of a local celebrity!
Visitors from far and wide can come visit Cheeto and learn about her journey back to health.
Once she is fully rehabilitated, the rare seahorse will be released back into her natural habitat and will continue living her life in the ocean, where she belongs.
