Jimmy Martinez was sitting inside his parked vehicle on a Monday afternoon when — in the blink of an eye — his life was put in danger.
It all started when a trucker rolled up next to him and told him to move. It was clear that the trucker was trying to steal the 54-year-old mechanic’s parking spot.
Then, the trucker retreated back to his vehicle — or so Jimmy thought. But the man returned with his jacket covering his hand. Under the jacket was a gun.
Before Jimmy knew it, the trucker opened fire.
He was hit in the head and in the arm, but before the trucker could finish what he was undoubtedly trying to do, Jimmy’s beloved dog, Chata, charged.
The trucker was still able to fire off some shots before fleeing from Chata’s wrath.
The 4-year-old Labrador-pitbull mix saved Jimmy, but she was shot in the process. Thankfully, both Chata and Jimmy were rushed to the hospital and treated for their wounds. If it hadn’t been for Chata, Jimmy’s fate may have been a lot worse.
Because of his wounds, Jimmy has been unable to continue working. Jimmy’s sister set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for both him and Chata, which you can visit here.
