When 28-year-old Charlyn Willis got engaged to her boyfriend, Dennis, she knew exactly who she wanted to text first: her sister.

In her excitement, though, she accidentally typed the wrong number into her phone. She ended up sending a ring selfie to a complete stranger.

Luckily, that stranger ended up being none other than actress Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Sarah, who is best known for her role as Buffy Summers on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, hasn’t been in the spotlight as much in recent years, but people definitely still know who she is.

When Sarah saw Charlyn’s text, she was surprised, but she also knew exactly what to do with it: share it on social media.

A day after getting the text, Sarah took a screenshot and shared it on her Instagram story, as well as on her Facebook page. She congratulated Charlyn and Dennis on their engagement, and fans were quick to send their well wishes too.

The stranger was 28-year-old Charlyn Willis, who had just gotten engaged to her boyfriend, Dennis.

Charlyn was trying to text her sister about the big news, but accidentally typed Sarah’s number instead.

Instead of ignoring Charlyn’s text, like some people would do, Sarah decided to use her platform as a celebrity to congratulate the newly-engaged couple publicly.

Sarah shared the image to her Instagram story, as well as her Facebook page, where she wrote:

This is #CharlynWillis. She got engaged yesterday, and meant to text her sister, but in all the excitement, got me instead. Her sister didn’t respond, but I did. So please help me say congrats, to Charlyn. (And her fiancé whose name I don’t know) #congratulations

Understandably, Charlyn freaked out.

She immediately went to her own Facebook page to share what happened, writing:

I guess the best way to announce your engagement is to have a celebrity to do it for you.. THANKS Sarah Michelle Gellar… AND YES, I SAID YES to Dee!!!!!

Charlyn also commented on Sarah’s Facebook post, writing:

Omg! Thank you Sarah! His name is Dennis! Thank you so much for this. You’ve truly made my engagement experience even more of a life changer! Please know when we set a date, I’ll be reaching out to invite you, Freddie, and the kids!

Understandably, Sarah’s Facebook post blew up, getting over 12,000 reactions in just six days.

One woman responded, “Well that’s one h*ll of a wrong number.”

Another woman wrote, “Congratulations and best wishes to Charlyn Willis, who not only got engaged, but ended up texting Buffy the Vampire Slayer! (Okay, Sarah Michelle Gellar, actor and entrepreneur, but still, it sounds cooler to say you texted a vampire slayer.)”

What would you do if you tried to text a family member with big news but accidentally messaged a celebrity instead?
