Demi Lovato’s recent alleged overdose has sent shock waves through Hollywood, but the unfortunate truth is that she’s not the only star who’s battled drug addiction throughout her career.
Lady Gaga — one of the many A-listers who tweeted a message of support for Demi following her hospitalization earlier this week — is familiar with the struggle. The 32-year-old “Million Reasons” singer has been very candid about her problems with addiction, once admitting to abusing marijuana to cope with a hip injury.
“I have been addicted to [marijuana], and it’s ultimately related to anxiety, coping, and it’s a form of self-medication,” she explained in a 2013 radio interview, adding,” I was smoking up to 15 to 20 marijuana cigarettes a day with no tobacco.”
Kelly Osbourne has been there, too, appearing on Wednesday’s episode of a British TV show called Loose Women to get candid about relapsing to drug and alcohol abuse.
“Relapse is one of the hardest things we [addicts] face,” explained Kelly, 33. “People need to realize that rehab doesn’t fix you. It helps you to get yourself on the right track.”
She added, “I can’t imagine what Demi’s going through right now, even though I know what it’s like to have the whole world talk about you in your most vulnerable state.”
