Carrie Underwood is one of the most recognizable country stars in the world. But after a gruesome accident, the American Idol season 4 winner warned fans that her face might not look exactly the same as it once did.
In a blog post shared in early January 2018, the singer revealed the extent of her injuries resulting from her November fall — and that she’d needed 40 to 50 facial stitches.
The “Before He Cheats” songstress has kept a low profile ever since the accident and hadn’t shared any new photos of herself on social media. When her fans noticed her absence, she decided to explain why.
“I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way,” she wrote, as reported by People. “And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different.”
But as it turns out, Carrie had been photographed after her accident — and the person she posed with didn’t even realize the singer had been injured!
Reality star and celebrity chef Adrienne Gang shared a photo of herself with Carrie on December 12, 2017, one month after her fall. “Just worked out next to [Carrie Underwood] NBD… she is adorable and so gracious… LOVE HER!” Adrienne wrote.
The photo began recirculating after Carrie admitted to fans that her face might look different the next time they saw it. Fans pointed out to Adrienne that it was apparently the first time Carrie had been photographed since her accident.
In a series of tweets, Adrienne reassured the singer’s worried fans that she “had no clue [Carrie] was injured” and said “she looked amazing.” She also confirmed that she hadn’t noticed Carrie wearing heavy makeup or anything else that might have covered up her scarring.
In the picture, Carrie appears to have what might be a black cast on her wrist. Only the right side of her face is pointed towards the camera, so it’s unclear whether the left side has more noticeable scarring. But in any case, it’s great to see that the singer was up and about (and looking really well!) so soon after her accident.
