In 2003, Mick Carney was killed in a car accident. He was only 54 years old. His son, Dave, had been given a bag of his belongings not long after he died, but he never went through them. Dave’s sister Laura found the bag, which included some trinkets and a small leather pouch. She opened the pouch and found three pages containing a bucket list.
“Do you know anything about this?” she asked Dave.
As reported by Inside Edition, it turned out that Dave had seen the pages, but had never read them, as he wanted to do that with his sister.
The bucket list, titled “Things I would like to do in my lifetime!” was written in 1978 — the same year Laura was born.
Before he died, Mick had only gotten around to completing five things on the list.
This moving moment awoke something in Laura. Right there and then, she and her brother agreed to finish their dad’s bucket list.
Laura has been documenting her journey to completing the list on her blog, “My Father’s List.”
There are 60 items on the list, with the first being: “I would like to live a long healthy life at least to the year 2020.”
Sadly, that first item would not come to pass. Mick lives on through his kids, and the will and determination they are showing to make sure their dad’s dreams come true.
Check out how Laura and her brother are inspiring themselves and others with this bucket list, and please SHARE it on Facebook!
