One dog owner went through the worst experience imaginable when her pit bull was an unwitting part of a police car chase.
It all started when Dan Cannon, the owner of Dirt Cheap Demolition, got a call from one of his employees on November 2, 2017, telling him that a thief had run off with one of the company trucks.
“About two o’clock, I got a call from one of my guys who said, ‘Hey, the truck’s been stolen.’ I said, ‘What do you mean?’ and he said, ‘Yeah, some guy ran and was able to start it and he took off with the truck,'” Dan recalled.
At the time, there was no dog in the truck.
Dan quickly called the San Diego police, who brought in the National City police to pursue the thief. After a chase, the suspect was apprehended. But the responding officers never expected what they would find inside the truck.
Devo, a blue pit bull, was in the back seat of the cab.
Devo’s owners showed up after the chase, but didn’t have the necessary ownership paperwork to prove that the dog was theirs. The pit bull was taken by animal services the following morning, who brought him to be checked out and medically cleared by a vet. The vet confirmed that the dog was completely fine following his scary adventure — and his owner arrived at the county animal shelter later that morning to reunite with the pup.
The owner told FOX5 San Diego that she didn’t know the suspect and doesn’t know how Devo got into the stolen pickup.
Thank goodness Devo was reunited with his family!
