In Delano, California, a pair of twin siblings were recently born in different years. Delano Regional Medical Center told reporters that a brother and sister were born in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

The first twin, a baby boy named Joaquin, was born on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2017, at 11:58 p.m. He weighed in at 5 lbs., 9 oz., and measured 18 inches. The second twin, a baby girl named Aitana, was born at 12:16 a.m. — less than 20 minutes later but nonetheless on the morning after, January 1, 2018. She weighed in at 4 lbs., 10 oz., measuring 16 inches.

Aitana was going to be a breech baby, so she had to be delivered via Cesarean section. Doctors believe she was the first baby born in Kern County in 2018.

“I’ve been in practice for almost 30-plus years. I’ve never had the opportunity to do anything like that before,” said Dr. Seyed Tamjidi.

Their parents say the babies came about a month early. The due date had been late January. Perhaps what’s most interesting is not that the twins were born in different years but that they have different birthdays. Joaquin will have to celebrate his birthday on December 31, while Aitana will celebrate hers on January 1.

Although the brother and sister might not have the same birthday, we’re sure that spending about nine months in the womb together will prove more impactful than those few minutes they spent apart.
