Michael Karges was driving his Milwaukee bus route one snowy day when he spotted a woman on crutches trying to cross the street.
If you’ve ever had an injury to a limb, you know how difficult it can be to get around without the use of a leg or an arm. It can be even harder when you factor in snow and sleet.
Michael could probably tell the woman was struggling and decided to keep an eye on her before driving off — and she’s lucky he did just that.
The bus driver had the green light but looked over right in time to see the woman fall in the middle of the road. Michael safely pulled the bus over and jumped out of his seat and ran to help her.
In the video below, the bus driver — with help from a passenger — lifts the woman to her feet and steadies her on her crutches. They don’t walk away after that. In fact, the two men escort her through the snow two blocks to a nearby shopping center.
The Milwaukee County Transit System posted the footage on Facebook, writing, “MCTS Driver Michael Karges didn’t know the woman who fell while crossing the slippery street, but he raced out to help her.”
