It was an early Friday morning when a man, hiding his identity under a jacket and hood, ever-so-boldly broke into a restaurant in Benicia, California.

Though there was no one inside the establishment at the time, the man had no clue he was being caught red-handed.

Surveillance cameras set up around the business filmed the man using a hammer to smash the glass and step through the doorway into Kimono, a Japanese restaurant.

The burglary set off an alarm that was connected to the owner’s cell phone. John Meric, who was home with his wife, watched the robbery live and in real time.

John couldn’t believe his eyes as he watched the thief drag his safe full of funds right out the door.

Before the suspect could make a run for it, however, John had authorities waiting outside the restaurant with a surprise — and he didn’t even have to leave the comfort of his couch.
