‘The Doctors’ Check Up On Bucky Covington’s Daughter After Her Infantile Hemangioma Diagnosis

by Giovanna Boldrini
Giovanna was born in Rome, Italy and currently resides in South Salem, New York. In her free time, she likes to cook with her children and grandchildren.

There might be nothing more terrifying for parents than watching their infant child get sick, but luckily, this case is looking up!

The Doctors just did a follow-up with Kennedy Covington, the daughter of American Idol contestant Bucky Covington. The little girl was born with infantile hemangioma, a type of benign tumor that is relatively common in children. Unfortunately, Kennedy’s case was very serious. The “before” pictures of her arm are terrifying.

“She’s gorgeous,” said Bucky when his daughter was born. “I think her arm’s bruised, but she’s perfect.”

Well, that “bruise” quickly spread, and the family looked for help. “She’s receiving… an off-label use of a medicine,” said The Doctors about the beta-blockers they prescribed. That basically means they used a drug typically intended to fix a problem other than the one the patient has.

And it absolutely worked! Now 3 years old, Kennedy is doing much better. “Today, [the arm is] just a light pink, just about as normal as you can be,” says Bucky. Her dad also adorably calls little marks left behind from her tumor as “angel kisses.”

The remedy has already made a tangible impact on Kennedy’s life. “She’s quite the dancer,” says Bucky as he describes her first recital. “But first thing I noticed, all the dresses are sleeveless dresses. That could have been an absolutely devastating moment for my daughter. Instead, it was an absolutely amazing moment.”

Another case solved by The Doctors!
