While there are various conflicting reports on the singer Tom Petty’s health status, TMZ is now reporting that Tom has been taken off life support on a “do not resuscitate” order.
However, there has been no official confirmation of his death.
At 4:35 p.m. ET, TMZ reported sources saying that “a chaplain was called to Tom’s hospital room… The singer is not expected to live throughout the day, but he’s still clinging to life. A report that the LAPD confirmed the singer’s death is inaccurate.”
Tom, 66, is a music icon who influenced a generation of performers through classics like “American Girl” and “Free Fallin’.” He was found unconscious and in full cardiac arrest inside his Malibu home.
Tom was already in critical condition by the time he was rushed to the hospital, according to TMZ.
The beloved rock musician, was born in Gainesville, Florida. Tom would go on to become one of rock’s best-selling artists, both as a solo performer and his band, the Heartbreakers. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
