It was late one Monday night when a fire broke out in the downstairs of a family home in Milwaukee. The flames quickly took over with six adults and five children inside.
One of the kids, 12-year-old Adrian, rushed to save his little brothers. He ran upstairs through the burning home.
The Milwaukee Fire Department arrived at the scene in three minutes. By this point, both the first and second floors were in flames.
The crew learned a child was possibly trapped on the second floor. The top of the stairs was extremely hot and engulfed, but they moved forward with their rescue plan anyway.
But Adrian didn’t know that his 10 family members had already been saved — and by the time the firefighters discovered him, it was already too late.
This is such an incredibly heart-wrenching story. Experts hope it will serve as a powerful reminder: Always make sure your smoke detectors are installed and working properly, and have a family evacuation plan in place.
