When you visit the zoo, you expect to see some exciting and fun things, but it is not often that an animal is found outside its enclosure.
At the National Zoo, a bobcat named Ollie went missing on Monday, January 30. Zookeepers saw her in the morning, but she never came out for her feeding later in the day.
They discovered a hole in the mesh netting around the bobcat enclosure. Ollie had snuck out!
While she was missing, the bobcat exhibit was closed. Police helped zoo officials search for her. But anyone who knows cats, big or small, knows they’ll come back when they are ready!
Two days after she went missing, Ollie turned back up at the National Zoo, but not to her own enclosure. Instead, she was found by a zoo visitor in the birdhouse!
It’s not that surprising that she’d visit the birds! Zookeepers set out a little trap to get her safely into a cage so they could bring her back to her own area.
Ollie was not hurt during her little break from the zoo and has seen the zoo’s veterinarian since her return. Can you imagine being the person who found a bobcat in the birdhouse?
