A relaxing day out on Fort Loudoun Lake in Knoxville, Tennessee, turned into an impromptu rescue mission after a group of boaters spotted what they initially mistook as a floating log out on the water.

Caitlin Riddell captured incredible video footage of her boyfriend Rob Hersch rescuing a baby deer during their boating trip on June 25, 2017.

What their group first thought was a log actually turned out to be a fawn struggling to stay afloat in the lake. According to Caitlin, the baby was swimming around in circles and going underwater. Rob, at that point, swam out to save the little deer.

As the clip shows, Rob swam right over to the deer and then used one of the spare life jackets to wrap the animal up.

He then swam her safely all the way to shore.

Once there, the deer was wrapped in a blanket and handed off to a worker at Choto Marina, who dried her off and carried her away. From there, the worker called the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to pick her up, according to WBIR.

Caitlin posted the video to Facebook, where it has since been viewed over 9,400 times.

There hasn’t been any word yet about how the fawn is doing, but she was definitely alive when Rob bravely swam her to shore.
