Blake Shelton is taking a big step by acknowledging that marriage is the logical next step with Gwen Stefani.
The two stars have been together for four years, after first connecting on The Voice. The couple has always played coy with discussions about their future. Now Blake is acknowledging that he hears the rumors and he gets it, but he also has to laugh.
Blake recently sat down for a chat with Entertainment Tonight‘s Nancy O’Dell at a private event in Hollywood. During the event, Blake shut down the latest rumors that he and Gwen would be walking down the aisle.
He joked about the never-ending rumor mill, saying, “First of all, the rumors stuff, I’m not gonna sit here and say that it makes me mad. It’s funny. I’ve learned over the years just to take that for what it is.”
He assured Nancy that he and Gwen take the public interest in their relationship as a compliment.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani totally know that we all are waiting for the moment they announce they’re getting hitched. They take it as a compliment that people care so much.
In the four years that they’ve been together, their relationship has been the subject of a number of juicy rumors. Most people are just hoping to see their relationship move forward.
The two started dating in late 2015 after spending quite a lot of quality time together as beloved judges on The Voice. Both were freshly single after getting divorced from their respective spouses.
Blake spoke candidly with Billboard about how their similar circumstances brought them together. He said, “Gwen saved my life. Who else on earth could understand going through a high-profile divorce from another musician? You can’t even imagine the similarities in our divorces.”
Getting through all of that together makes the rumors seem like nothing. “First of all, the rumors stuff, I’m not gonna sit here and say that it makes me mad. It’s funny. I’ve learned over the years just to take that for what it is,” Blake told Entertainment Tonight host Nancy O’Dell.
“If I am somehow, and Gwen is somehow, newsworthy enough that they have to make up stories about us just to have something to say, then I guess that’s a good problem to have,” Blake remarked. “You know, I gotta say that we couldn’t be happier, and we’ve never been doing better.”
Blake acknowledges that their relationship is getting stronger and stronger. He explained, “Obviously, that’s gotta lead somewhere, but I promise you, we won’t break the news in any of the grocery store trash magazines.”
He even toyed with letting Nancy herself break the news. “When it happens, you’ll hear about it from somebody like you,” he said. “Maybe even you, exclusively. You’re credible. You’re incredible, and you’re credible.”
Blake and Gwen will be spending some more professional time together, too. Both will be repeating their roles as spectacular coaches on the upcoming season of The Voice. Can I get an amen?
Even though they’ll find themselves head-to-head yet again, Blake acknowledges that Gwen is a tremendous support system for him. “She’s never not been supportive or a cheerleader, just the most encouraging person I’ve ever had in my life, on any level,” he explained. “It’s unbelievable how supportive she is.”
He thinks this quality is what makes her such an important role model. It helps him learn from her as well.
Blake gushed, “I tell her this all the time, and she doesn’t realize it, but Gwen’s one of these people that I learn so much from, because no matter what the situation is, she has a way of looking at something from every angle possible, and understanding if there’s turmoil or something going on, instead of just jumping to conclusions or reacting, it’s, ‘Well, here’s why they may feel that way.'”
Blake is also part of another very special and exciting duo. He has teamed up with Garth Brooks for a new song, “Dive Bar.” We love the idea of Shelton and Brooks doing a duet together!
Collaborating with one of country’s most iconic stars is a treat. That’s not to say Blake doesn’t have his concerns, however.
He explained, “That’s the scary thing about performing live with Garth — you don’t know if you’re gonna be swinging in on a ladder or if you’re flying in on a wire. I hope he knows that I probably exceed any weight limit on any of those tricks, and he needs to just let me walk out there and sing.”
It seems like a pretty great time to be Blake Shelton. He’s got the support of a wonderful woman, an exciting project on the horizon, and endless possibilities in his future.
