We recently reported on the widely circulated and highly troubling video showing a white woman who called the police on a black man in Central Park.
In the encounter, a man named Christian Cooper kindly asked a woman named Amy Cooper (no relation) to put a leash on her dog at the park. All dogs are required to be on leash there, anyway.
But instead of obliging, the woman called the cops and pretended that she was in danger; she told police that “an African American man” was threatening her life.
Meanwhile, she manhandled her poor cocker spaniel, holding him by the neck collar as he squirmed and struggled.
Christian Cooper is an accomplished 57-year-old Harvard grad, writer, and former Marvel Comics editor who was simply trying to do some birdwatching at the park that day.
The video has sparked a ton of conversation about racism in America, and a whole lot of outrage. It has been viewed more than 30 million times.
In the clip below, Christian himself speaks out after hearing Amy Cooper was fired from her job at a Manhattan financial firm as a result of the Central Park video.
He says she “went to a racist place,” but watch below to see his reaction to the backlash against the woman who targeted him.
