A black Labrador retriever mix puppy is getting a new leash on life (pun intended) thanks to the actions of some Good Samaritans.
The story of the adorable Labrador retriever in the video below begins in El Dorado County, California. According to KTXL Sacramento, a maintenance worker in the area heard strange cries coming from a nearby dumpster.
Curious, he went to the dumpster and opened it. Inside was the poor puppy.
He took a photo of the puppy and posted it on the El Dorado County Watch Facebook page. In the post, he said that the puppy was sitting on top of a trash bag: “[There was] no way he could get in or out by himself.”
The clues all pointed to a terrible possibility: Someone abandoned the puppy in that dumpster.
The maintenance worker picked up the pup and took him to an auto parts store. Good Samaritans there called the animal shelter.
“That’s just a horrendous thing to do to an animal,” said Chief Henry Brzezinski with El Dorado County Animal Services. “We take animal cruelty seriously here in El Dorado County.”
According to KTXL, the puppy — estimated to be about 10 weeks old — will be available for adoption soon.
