Every parent knows how difficult the decision to place a baby or a child up for adoption can be for birth moms and dads.

The video below is a visceral, raw example of the pain a birth parent must go through when making heartbreaking decision, especially when they believe it’s what’s right for the baby.

Hannah Mongie was 18 years old when she learned she was pregnant. But then, an unexpected tragedy struck.

According to KTVU, the baby’s dad died of natural causes in his sleep, just two days after she heard their son’s heartbeat for the first time.

While her son continued to grow inside her belly, Hannah began to wrestle with the thought of placing him for adoption. Ultimately, she knew it was the right decision: she wanted her son to have both a mom and a dad.

As the months went by, she met the family who would ultimately adopt her son, Taggart.

“I fell in love with them, and they were beyond anything I could have asked for. Within about two weeks I told them I wanted them to adopt you,” she said in the video below, where she told her son about his new parents, Brad and Emily Marsh.

After Taggart was born, Hannah, got to spend two days with him. Just a few hours before she signed off on his adoption, she made the video message you’re about to watch, dedicated to her son. Now 21, Hannah is sharing that message with the world.

“I made this decision purely out of love,” she says.
