How well do you know basic US history? You’d be surprised how many people think they know the bare bones behind how our country came to be, but in reality, they know pretty much nada.
For a 2014 segment on “The O’Reilly Factor,” the staff sent street reporter Jesse to Jones Beach on Long Island to ask beach-goers military history in honor of Memorial Day. Questions such as, “Do you know why you’re off work today?” or, “Who did America fight in the Revolutionary War?” or “Which President was George Washington?”
The answers, needless to say, are both maddening and hilarious.
But before you make blanket statements on the intelligence of Americans, the person who uploaded this video to YouTube has this to say:
“The people in this video are NOT the “norm” and this video is shocking to MOST Americans, that’s why it’s being shared by so many. It is quite stunning to anyone who grew up in America and did not sleep all the way through school to see people have absolutely no idea of American history. Knowing history is EXTREMELY important. It is a guide book to what works, what doesn’t, what should NEVER happen again and what we should do allot more of.”
Are you shocked by what these folks have to say (or, I guess, what they don’t have to say…) about US history?
