Julie and Colin Reid knew they wanted to adopt a dog, but they weren’t sure what type of breed they wanted.
One day, the UK couple received a call from a staff member at an animal shelter about a 5-month-old Great Dane named Arnie. Arnie’s previous owners cited a “change in personal circumstances” and surrendered him to the shelter.
The couple was interested in meeting Arnie — and it was love at first sight.
The Great Dane also happens to be the biggest puppy in the United Kingdom.
Arnie already stands above 6 feet tall on his hind legs and weighs 95 pounds, which is more than a baby hippo!
And as he gets older, experts say he could double in size.
Julie and her family say Arnie’s heart is just as big as his body and describe him as gentle and playful — but they have no idea what he’s going to be like when he grows up.
The family has four other dogs in addition to the giant Great Dane, including a Dogue de Bordeaux, two Chinese crested dogs, and a French bulldog. In the video below, you’ll get a hilarious visual of what it looks like when Julie takes Arnie for a walk alongside his smaller siblings.
What a gentle giant.
