Texas mom Betsy Ayala always struggled with her weight. After she gave birth to her daughter, Betsy’s postpartum depression exasperated her eating issues.

She fell into a vicious cycle of eating to self-medicate, reaching her heaviest weight: 261 pounds. However, just six months after giving birth, the mom discovered that her husband was having an affair with a co-worker.

“I had been with him since I was 17 and pretty much devoted my life to our relationship and him,” Betsy told Caters.

What’s even worse is that Betsy discovered Facebook messages between the two of them where they called her a “cow” and “fat.”

“I was devastated. I found out through some messages I read on his Facebook where they were calling me a cow and a fat f*** and just trashing me, and my whole world fell apart,” she said.

What was odd is that her husband had never criticized her appearance to her face and even encouraged her unhealthy habits.

“He would always tell me I looked fine or would try to get me to eat junk all the time, which is why I was so devastated when I read those messages because it was almost like he enabled me or wanted me to stay that way,” she said.

But her cheating husband was exactly the catalyst she needed to change. With the help of her sister, Betsy began doing Zumba three times a week. Eventually she would start running and weightlifting six times a week, and she also adopted a high-protein diet.

Betsy lost 105 pounds… and the extra baggage of a man who did not appreciate her.

“Now I honestly feel that what he did was a blessing because otherwise I would have been the way I was forever,” she said. “It took me a while to get to that place of forgiveness, but what he did was about him and not me.”
